Valentines Day Adventures

This week was full of exciting things!  (and when I say this week, I really just mean the weekend...) We were looking forward to the three day weekend all week.  Javier's 3 day weekend started on Friday.  No classes for that boy!  Lucky. 4 day weekend for him!  He went shooting with Alec, Bro. Burgess, and Jared.  Fun! I went to school and worked... I think we should always celebrate a 3 day weekend by taking Friday off.

Before I get to the weekend fun, Thursday we went grocery shopping! Which is the best. (And yes, is important enough to point out here to remember forever(: )

Saturday was Valentines day!  We slept in, then made heart-shaped bacon and pink cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

 I LOVE Valentines Day.  I have never celebrated it with a "Valentine" before being with Javier, so I think all the excitement has just built up! Javier, on the other hand (as well as all other men on the planet) isn't one to make a big deal about it.  If there was a National "legal for one day to plant explosives places and shoot stuff" Day, he'd be ALL over it!  But, because he loves his wife, he made our lovey breakfast, and spent the whole day having adventures with me. He even got me this balloon!

After breakfast, we watched Netflix (we are currently blowing through the How I Met Your Mother series).  Then, we went to the MOA and made origami!  Did you know they have a downstairs?  It's like a secret origami cave...

After that, we ate at Olive Garden (shout out to Rod and Angel! They love us.), then went to the Movies.  SUCH a fun Valentines.

Sunday was so lazy.  After church, we made our special multicultural feast of Curry, rice, cong you bing (蔥油餅-Chinese Pancake), and arroz con leche.  YUM! I forgot to take a picture.  We were hungry...

Monday was even lazier than Sunday.  We slept in, made a yummy breakfast, went to work to make a kid's dream come true, and watched Netflix for the rest of the day!  It was GLORIOUS.  But!  School has to start again every week.  The sad circle of life of college students.

I really like Valentines day. I think Last year I was planning out what I was going to get Javier for at least a month! Same this year. Pinterest has been my best friend. Our Valentines celebration started on Friday! We had a stake valentines activity. There was dancing, valentine making, and karaoke! I loved it! For the same reasons, Javier hated it.

But, Javier loves me. So, he danced, made valentines, and sang karaoke with me. (: We also ate lots of Oreo's and chocolate covered things.


Saturday was a BLAST! We slept in, did some work and hung out with Alec Burgess. Rubios and movie! We watched Exodus... well, almost all of it. It felt like it was dragging on... when we finally looked at the clock, we had been in the theater almost 3 hours! Aaaand we left. Reasons? Glad you asked. It just wasn't very good. Because I'm a list person, Exodus: the list:

• They made God a 10 year old kid, with zero Godly attributes.
• He told Moses the whole time that he was useless
• Moses made an army of Hebrews at one point.
• There was an additional plague of alligators that I never knew about... :P
• The red sea didn't part, it just became a "low tide". The music was so epic! But out of place. What a shame.
• The plot really did drag on, setting aside the biblical incorrectness
• There were no musical numbers! #PrinceofEgyptforthewin

The book was better (; On the plus side, though, Christian Bale played Moses, which obviously means Moses was Batman.

Afterwards, we had a lovely dinner with May and Jackson, some new friends from church. They are so cute! A fun end of the night.

Sundays are SO nice when Javier doesn't work (now, that's never!). We sleep in, eat, get to Church at noon, and cook and watch Netflix all day. then do homework if absolutely necessary. This Sunday, we got to add Brady and Allison Price! Food, games, and near death experiences entertainment. (That's a story for Javier to tell...)

The life of poor married college students

Being poor married college students is full of potentially embarrassing moments adventure.  As much as not worrying about money would be great, budgeting is kind of fun!  (Maybe because it makes me feel like a big kid.) Though, I have been thinking of all the funny little things that are part of life that are actually just poor student reality:

• Buying Martinelli's when it's on sale for Valentines day, even though it's not for a month
• This conversation: 
• Javier:  Are you hungry?
• Me: Yes!
• Javier:  What do you want to eat?
• Me: I don't know... we don't really have any food at home.
• Javier: Let's go out, then!
• Me: Great!  Where do we have a gift card to?
• How our wedding gifts make us feel fancy
• Violating my piggy bank (named Penelope) for quarters to do laundry (and when they run out, asking the grocery check out lady for $5 in quarters...making her have to restock in the process)
• Speaking of laundry, not doing laundry until absolutely necessary 
• Still speaking of laundry, stuffing the washers to beyond max capacity because we only have enough quarters for 2 loads
• Talking a LOT about what we will do when we're rich
• The best days of the month are the first four days after we go grocery shopping
• Having to order checks (you know, the plain kind.  We're grown ups now.) because now we actually have to use them
• Pinterest has become our go-to for free date ideas and dinners that only incorporate ketchup and pasta

The funniest part is everyone else in this town is in the same boat.  And we all try to cover it up.  But this is the comedy of our lives.  Yes.  Great times.  Just adds to the awesome memories we're gonna have of the next couple years.

As far as weekly happenings go, Javier has been researching a couple different companies to sell with this summer.  He's finally settled on Alterra!  We will probably end up in Kansas City.  (I'm hoping I get to see a tornado!  I hear the sky turns green.  There is currently no geologic explanation, but I'm convinced it's magic leaking out from the Emerald City)

We had a super fun time at Provo Beach Resort (An arcade with a pool in one room.  Classy, Provo.) with Brady and Allison Price!  We won a whopping 100 tickets and spent is on 50 little green army men and the rest on warheads EXTREME sour candy.  Then we put 3 in our mouths and had a no-face-making contest.  Still can't feel our tongues, but it was worht it!

Yesterday, we used Alterra's theater to watch Anderson Silva (one of the top fighters in the world) fight Nick Diaz.  It was sweet!  Silva was out for a while recovering from a leg he split in two kicking someone.  Whaaat? Haha.  He won. 

In other news, I started making a blanket!  I'm 3 very small squares in. Also, Javier finally quit at the hotel!  No more late nights and Sunday shifts!!  Aaaaand midterms are coming up...  To the books!
